Actress ANNA FRIEL has added her name to the list of actresses competing to portray WONDER WOMAN on the big screen.

A host of A-list ladies have been tipped to take over from 1970s TV's Wonder Woman Lynda Carter in Joss Whedon's big screen remake, including Megan Fox, Eliza Dushku and even Beyonce Knowles. And Brit Friel wants to make sure she's considered too.

The Land of The Lost star tells People magazine she's been a fan since she was a child: "Everyone wanted to be Wonder Woman. I had Wonder Woman pyjamas."

But Dushku remains the favourite for the role, after Carter endorsed her in an interview with WENN.com, stating, "Eliza would make a great Wonder Woman."

The story of two U.S. marshals, Teddy Daniels (Leonardo DiCaprio) and Chuck Aule (Mark Ruffalo), who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island's fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane.

Shutter Island is directed by prolific filmmaker Martin Scorsese, of everything from Taxi Driver to Raging Bull to Goodfellas to Cape Fear to Gangs of New York to The Aviator to The Departed. The screenplay was written by Laeta Kalogridis, of Night Watch, Alexander, and Pathfinder previously. This is based on Dennis Lehane's novel of the same name. Paramount is bringing Shutter Island to theaters on October 2nd.

June 10, 2009 - Two weeks after she slammed Wonder Woman and reportedly passed on playing Lara Croft comes a rumor about another genre film that Transformers starlet Megan Fox is reportedly under consideration to star in.

Cinefools claims to have heard from an industry source that Fox is being eyed to play the title role of Buffy Summers in the recently announced big-screen relaunch of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The new movie will not involve Joss Whedon or be tied in anyway to either the 1992 film or the TV series starring Sarah Michelle Gellar that followed.

We recommended Fox, along with several other young hotties, to play the vampire slayer in our recent Buffy Casting Couch columm.

IGN contacted Buffy producer Roy Lee about the rumor, who said, "The rumors of Megan Fox being involved with Buffy are just rumors. As with any film project with a female lead under the age of 30, Megan is the actress that most studios want so it is no surprise her name is mentioned. While I think she would be great for our project, we are still in the early stages of developing the script."

JUNE 10--Now that he is a ward of the California state prison system, wig-loving murderer Phil Spector has been forced to return to his au naturel state. As seen in the below mug shot, the 69-year-old Spector's dome is no longer covered by one of the fright wigs he wore during his criminal trials (the most recent of which ended in the music producer's conviction for killing actress Lana Clarkson in February 2003). Spector, who was sentenced last month to 19 years in prison, was photographed after arriving last week at the North Kern State Prison Reception Center in Delano.

In an Extra interview that'll air tonight, Tori Spelling tells host Mario Lopez that she was a huge fan of Jon & Kate Plus 8 but now, "it seems to have gone to an odd place."

"I loved the fact that they were a normal family; they weren’t in Hollywood," says Spelling, who appeared on Extra with husband Dean McDermott to promote the fourth season of their Oxygen show, Tori & Dean: Home Sweet Hollywood. "It’s hard for me now to see them on the cover of People magazine…I was like, ‘Wow, I’m not watching a celebrity family on TV. I’m actually watching a real family, and I want to know what that’s like so I can relate to that.’ So now it’s gone to a whole different level, and I feel bad for them."

Spelling then offered some advice to the Gosselins: "I hope they’re prepared for what they are going through and just know that this too shall pass…Next week, it will be someone else on the cover and you can go about your life. Good luck to them.”

thank earth, someone has some fucking senses.

Less than a month after being told by Donald Trump that she can keep her Miss California crown, Carrie Prejean is being fired, Foxnews.com has learned exclusively.

K2 Productions, the independent producers of the Miss California USA pageant, under license from Miss Universe, cites continued breach of contract issues as the reason for Prejean's firing. The decision is revealed in documents obtained by FOXNews.com.

"This was a business decision, based solely on contract violations," Keith Lewis, executive director of K2 Productions, said in the documents. "After our press conference in New York we had hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship. However, since that time it has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together.”

Prejean came under fire for her answer to a question about gay marriage two months ago in the Trump-owned Miss USA pageant, in which she was the runner-up. After the pageant, Prejean was continuously attacked as she defended her belief that gays and lesbians should not be given the right to marry in California. She became embroiled in more controversy when racy pictures of her were published that some construed as violations of her Miss California contract.

Trump came to her defense in a May 12 press conference attended by Prejean and Keith Lewis, calling her answer to the question "honest" and saying "we have determined ... that the pictures taken are fine." He allowed her to continue on as Miss California.

But it was Trump who gave the final OK to fire her, FOXNews.com has learned.

"I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so," Trump said in the same documents. "Unfortunately it just doesn’t look like it is going to happen and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision."

Representatives for K2, Prejean, and Trump were not available for immediate comment.

First runner-up Tami Farrell will assume the role and responsibilities of Miss California USA. Additionally, the Miss Universe Organization will make the reigning Miss USA, Kristen Dalton, and Miss Universe, Dayana Mendoza, available to K2 Productions to fulfill appearance requests that were declined by Prejean.

According to a source, Prejean has aspirations to write a book and pursue other opportunities, which she will be able to do now that she has been released from her duties as Miss California.

Donald Trump: Prejean Treated People Like Crap

Donald Trump just told TMZ he gave the green light to fire "biblically correct" Carrie Prejean's award-winning butt because she just wouldn't do the job and treated people badly.

Trump told us Carrie refused to appear at around 30 events on behalf of Miss California USA. He says Prejean was contractually bound to appear and she just wouldn't do it. He doesn't think her attitude has anything to do with her politics.

Trump said: "To me she was the sweetest thing. Everyone else -- she treated like s**t."

Shanna Moakler's "Faith Restored" After Carrie Prejean Loses Her Crown

One person happy with the news is former pageant director Shanna Moakler, who resigned from her post when Prejean was allowed to remain Miss California in May.

"First and foremost, my faith has been restored in the Miss Universe Organization and with Donald Trump," she tells Usmagazine.com exclusively. "I believed eventually what I intimately knew would come to fruition."

KATE Winslet has revealed that she had to wear a wig "down stairs" for nude scenes in her Oscar winning role in The Reader.

She told New York’s Allure magazine the secret behind the famous nude clip, saying, “It was anything but glamorous.

“The film is set in the 50s, I couldn’t have just had a landing strip! I had to grow the hair down there. But because of years of waxing, as all of us girls know, it doesn’t come back quite the way it used to."

"They even made me a merkin – a wig – because they were so concerned that I might not be able to grow enough."

U.S. Lawmaker Says Obama Administration Ordered FBI to Read Rights to Detainees
The move is reportedly creating chaos in the field among the CIA, FBI and military personnel, according to Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich.
Wednesday, June 10, 2009

A senior Republican on the House Intelligence Committee is accusing the Obama administration of quietly ordering the FBI to start reading Miranda rights to suspected terrorists at U.S. military detention facilities in Afghanistan.

The move is reportedly creating chaos in the field among the CIA, FBI and military personnel, according to Rep. Mike Rogers, R-Mich. The soldiers, especially, he says, are frustrated that giving high value detainees Miranda rights -- the right to remain silent, the right to an attorney -- is impeding their ability to pursue intelligence on the battlefield, according to a story first reported by the Weekly Standard.

"What I found was lots of confusion and very frustrated people on the front lines who are trying to, well, make Afghanistan successful for the United States and its allies," said Rogers, who serves on the House Intelligence Committee.

Rogers, a former FBI special agent who served in the U.S. Army, just returned from Afghanistan and a visit to Bagram Air Base, where he said the rights are being read.

"I witnessed it myself, talked to the people on the ground," he said. "What you have is two very separate missions colliding in the field in a combat zone. Again, anytime that you offer confusion in that environment that's already chaotic and confusing enough, you jeopardize a soldier's life."

U.S. commanders told FOX News soldiers are not reading Miranda rights to detainees, but those commanders could not speak to whether the FBI was doing so. The practice has not been instituted at detention facilities in Iraq or at Guantanamo Bay, according to U.S. senior military officials.

Asked if the Obama administration had ordered that Miranda rights be read to certain detainees, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said, "I have no reason to disbelieve a member of Congress. But I don't know any of the circumstances that are involved around it."

But Gibbs acknowledged that it wouldn't be a surprise to find out that it was happening.

Justice Department spokesman Dean Boyd denied there has been a policy change covering detainees.

"There has been no policy change nor blanket instruction for FBI agents to Mirandize detainees overseas," he said in a statement, adding, "While there have been specific cases in which FBI agents have Mirandized suspects overseas, at both Bagram and in other situations, in order to preserve the quality of evidence obtained, there has been no overall policy change with respect to detainees."

Some senators wonder what would have happened if Khaled Sheikh Mohammad, a self-confessed architect of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, had been read his Miranda rights.

"I'd be very concerned if we're sending FBI agents over to Bagram Air Base in the middle of a military operation to start reading Miranda rights to detainees caught on the battlefield," Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., said.

Anti-Obama mentality becoming more frightening
Shepard Smith Says His Email Is Becoming "More And More Frightening" (VIDEO)

Fox News' Shepard Smith's pretty well known -- and oft praised -- for the way he can size up a news event and expose his own authentic concern without seeming mawkish or phony. And in the wake of today's shooting at the Holocaust Museum, Smith went on the air today to talk about the emails he's been receiving for "the past few months," and how they've been getting "more and more frightening."

SMITH: There are people now, who are way out there on a limb. And I think they're just out there on a limb with the email they send us. Because I read it, and they are out there. I mean, out there in a scary place...I could read a hundred of them like this...I mean from today. People who are so amped up and so angry for reasons that are absolutely wrong, ridiculous, preposterous."

He went on to read an email, filled with the usual paranoid "birther" nonsense, which included an admonishment to Smith. "This is, I promise, a representative sample of the kind of things that we get here," Smith said.

Time will tell if Smith's colleagues at Fox stop taking these sorts of emails casually. Smith clearly could do that no longer. I think that's appropriate!

PETA criticizes Seattle's famed fish toss
SEATTLE, June 10 (UPI) -- People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says the fish tossing that occurs at Seattle's Pike Place Market is unacceptable.

The animal rights organization told the American Veterinary Medical Association it should rethink its plan for a Pike Place Fish Market demonstration at an upcoming Seattle convention, The Seattle Times said Wednesday.

The organization told the veterinary group in a letter the practice of fish tossing makes fish appear like toys and therefore is an unacceptable practice for individuals who care for animals.

Lindsay Rajt, a PETA spokeswoman in Norfolk, said compassion should be shown by veterinarians.

Justin Hall, a Pike Place Fish Market assistant manager, said workers at the market respect the fish they toss around for customer and tourist amusement as the animals represent their livelihood.

Neb. doctor wants to carry on Tiller's mission

By ERIC OLSON, Associated Press Writer Eric Olson, Associated Press Writer – Tue Jun 2, 9:25 pm ET

OMAHA, Neb. – Physician LeRoy Carhart wants to continue providing third-term abortions after the brazen slaying of his friend and colleague George Tiller, but the Nebraska doctor doesn't have anywhere to perform them — and he's one of only a handful of providers who will.
Tiller's Wichita, Kan., clinic was shuttered Sunday after the 67-year-old physician was gunned down at his church. His family said Tuesday that they were unsure when it would reopen, posing a problem for Carhart, who wants to carry on his friend's mission.

Carhart, 67, is one of a handful of remaining doctors in the United States who perform third-trimester abortions, and it is uncertain if a new generation of providers will take over the cause. Schools and universities don't offer many programs to train physicians on how to perform the procedure, and Carhart said younger doctors who might be interested in stepping forward are afraid they or their families will be harmed.

Tiller's slaying underlined that fear. On Tuesday, Kansas authorities charged 51-year-old Scott Roeder, a staunch abortion opponent, with first-degree murder in Tiller's death.
"Dr. Tiller and I and all our friends know that tomorrow is never a given," Carhart told The Associated Press. "I think what we have to do is not let this loss of his life affect our goals in life, No. 1, and we need to do things so he's never forgotten."

Fox News Reporter: Scandalized DHS Report Needs Second Look

Nine days ago, I joined Greg Sargent in wondering if the murder of George Tiller should prompt a "second look" at the DHS report on homegrown right-wing extremists that was so scandalized by pundits who insisted it was some sort of high concept government crackdown on mainstream conservatives, despite the fact that it was a report initiated by the Bush administration in which the word "conservative" never appeared. In the wake of today's recent tragic events at Washington DC's Holocaust museum, that second look seems even more appropriate. Catherine Herridge, reporting for Fox News, agrees:

GALLAGHER: It's a fair admonishment to us Catherine, to be careful of the facts here. But as you look at these, these types of groups that the FBI may or may not be investigating in the hours and days to come, we often forget about homegrown groups, and as you were saying in a report just a few days ago, one of the big concerns now about terrorism is from within.

HERRIDGE: Well that's right; for some context I think we need to look a the incidents today and see the warning from Homeland Security, about left-wing and right-wing extremist groups in this country, in a somewhat different light. I know from having interviewed every homeland security secretary who's come through that office that their primary concern has always been the lone wolf attacks. As I mentioned earlier today, the lone wolf attack is the most difficult to thwart because it is a conspiracy of one, an individual who is not sharing information with other people. The broader the conspiracy, as you can imagine, the more likely it is that information will leak and law enforcement will be able to intervene. So again it's a lone wolf attack, during the inaugural period, right up to today, I know that is the number one concern. And whether this is in fact the case, this would appear, and I would emphasize appear to fit that profile. And again I think we have to consider that these warning from Homeland Security that became so controversial earlier this year about left-wing and right-wing extremist groups, we have to now see them in a different light because they did specifically talk about the spread of white supremacy groups--[CROSSTALK]

GALLAGHER: Catherine hold on we're going to hear from the mayor of DC.

NOTE: Herridge and Gallagher were cut off by the beginning of Washington DC's Mayor Adrian Fenty's remarks.
Greg Sargent reminds that the report was "chock full of warnings about 'lone wolf extremists' capable of violence."
It should be noted that she is merely echoing her own consistent and sane line of thinking on this matter. As Think Progress noted back in April, Herridge's reporting on the matter was often at odds with other personalities from her network.
